If you’re a skier, who wants to spend as much time enjoying the slopes as you can, while relaxing in the Canadian Rockies, then you’re in luck. Sunshine Village’s, Sunshine Mountain Lodge is your perfect ski-oasis.
Located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, at Banff’s premier ski and snowboard resort, Sunshine Mountain Lodge is the only ski in, ski out, hotel in Banff National Park. The 84 room eco-boutique hotel offers cozy rooms that will invite you to relax.
The team at Banff Sunshine Village is known for their friendly yet professional manners. As a guest, I love that I can drop my suitcases (and yes there are multiples) at the base area check in first thing in the morning and trust that my bags are waiting for me in my mountain view room by 4 pm.
At checkin, you’ll also be provided with your special “hotel guest” lift pass. It’s bright orange look makes you feel like an instant VIP. Regardless of whether you’re a hot shot skier, more of snow bunny, or a ski lodge socialite, at Sunshine Mountain Lodge you will feel right at home.
The hotel which was originally built in 1967 is made up of two wings. The main lodge and the west wing. The hotel was fully renovated in the mid 2000’s, and the west wing was built in 2010. When you’re at Sunshine, it’s hard not to notice the beautiful rock siding. Which actually came from the ground on which the hotel was built.
Staying at Sunshine Mountain Lodge is a treat. After the lifts close for the day, the feeling of having the mountain to yourself is a thrill.
After a day on the slopes, I love to walk the halls of the hotel marvelling at the resorts original art collection. With a day of skiing under you, you’re sure to recognize some of stunning landscapes.
When I ride, I love big mountain terrain. Two of my favourite runs at Sunshine are Delirium Dive and the Wild West. After a big day on the mountain, I need to take an hour for myself to stretch my legs. Sunshine Mountain Lodge has a nice little workout room, complete with cardio equipment and some stretching supplies.
Apres stretch, I heed the call of Sunshine’s giant outdoor hot tub. At night, Sunshine Mountain Lodge offers campy and totally fun activities. My favorites are a toss up between hot tub bingo and tobogganing. Although, making smores seems to be the cult favorite.
By the time, I’m out of the hot tub I’m usually ready for bed…although you’re welcome to twist my arms for a bevy or two in Trappers.
When staying at Sunshine, flush with fresh mountain air, I find I sleep like a baby. A very content baby, who is lulled to sleep by the sweet melodies of the cats grooming, and the joyful promise of first chair waiting for me when I wake.
Next time you venture to the mountains, treat yourself to friendly welcome of Sunshine Mountain Lodge and Canada’s Best Skiing at Banff Sunshine Village.
